The ECT (Electro Convulsive Therapy) apparatus is specifically designed for neurochemical and neuropharmacological research. A constant current output is used, ensuring reproducible results and accurate determination of the CE threshold, also identifying any variations in the threshold caused by drugs that have a specific action on the cortex and sub-cortical regions. The shock parameters have been selected after consulting the latest literature to provide the most suitable range when working with mice and rats. Consistent reproducible current levels are produced by feedback circuits that adapt to the variation of contact impedance from animal to animal. The animal’s impedance can be pre-measured and displayed, and a warning signal flashes if the impedance is too high to provide the desired current level. The special output circuit allows the use of any type of electrode.
