FEATURES:
This aggregometer was designed to simultaneously measure platelet aggregation and ATP secretion. It uses infrared light to measure aggregation and was called lumi-Aggregometer. The impedance method for measuring aggregation in whole blood was then described; a small electric current is passed between two electrodes. During the initial contact with blood, the electrodes become coated with a monolayer of platelets. When an aggregating agent is added, the aggregated platelets on the monolayer increase the impedance. This increase in impedance is recorded on a pen recorder.
