Gas chromatography is an analysis technique that allows the different components of a mixture to be separated one by one. It can be applied to both gas samples, liquids and solids as long as they can be traced back to the vapor state within certain temperature ranges.

MAIN FEATURES:
The Hewlett Packard HP 5890 Series II gas chromatography system is a chemical analysis instrument used to separate chemicals in a complex sample. This instrument uses a narrow, continuous-flow tube known as a column, through which several chemical constituents of a sample pass in a stream of gas (carrier gas, mobile phase); the constituents move at different speeds depending on their different chemical and physical properties and their interaction with a specific filling of the column, called the stationary phase. As chemicals exit the end of the column, they are detected and identified electronically. The function of the stationary phase in the column is to separate the different components, causing each to exit the column at a different time (retention time). Other parameters that can be used to change the order or retention time are carrier gas flow rate and temperature. The kit comes with PC and Chromstar 6.2 software.
