Description
DESCRIPTION:
The Hole Board has been conceived to study the behaviour of the mouse confronted with a new environment.
SECTORS OF USE:
Student and chemical research laboratories
MAIN FEATURES:
The Hole Board is designed for screening mice and assessing exploratory behavior and testing memory. Memory tests are accomplished by placing treats at specific locations below a hole, removing after a time, and monitoring head pokes. Each hole has an infrared emitter and detector. The animal’s head pokes through the hole and breaks the beam. The readout shows accrued head pokes, and data output contains additional experimental parameters such as time and date stamp. The test enables the initial exploratory activity of the animal and its variations brought about by psychotropic drugs to be unmistakably assessed. A few minute test is sufficient for most screening tests. The recording takes place automatically, via miniature I.R. emitters/receivers embodied in the “holes” of the board. For the print-out it can be linked to PRINTER 7401 and, for registration and independent functioning, to BASILINK 2000.
